This year, lots of children wished to be on our School Council for 2021-2022, which was fantastic! We asked children in Years 3 – Year 6 who were interested to submit an application form stating why they wanted to join and the qualities they would bring. The applications were then read out to each year group and the children voted for the two who they felt would best represent them.
Our chosen 12 members are such a dedicated and enthusiastic group of young people! We all share the same aim ‘to make the school as best as possible’. Our current aim is to buy new fiction books for the library and classrooms and to make children more active on the playground. The School Council members have asked members of their class what they would like to see on the playground and which items they would enjoy playing with. We are also looking at introducing ‘Mr Skippy’ to the school to teach children how to skip in a fun and active way!
Throughout the year, School Council have been involved in many aspects of school life. We have raised money for two charities (Children in Need and Comic Relief). We held a poster competition for CIN and a design your own red nose competition for Comic Relief. As a result, we raised over £1000 for these amazing charities!
Along with raising money for charity, we have also raised money for school funds to go towards equipment for the playground. We held a fundraising competition where the children were given the opportunity to create products with their own Christmas design on. This helped us raised £980 for the school.
To celebrate World Book Day, School Council organised many events within school and a book donation. Everyone was so generous and a grand total of 226 books were donated to school. These were placed in the playground book boxes, classroom libraries and the school library. We used some of our money to buy stickers to put in the books so it is always remembered who donated the books for others to enjoy.
To celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee, School Council organised a poster competition. The winning poster will be framed and placed proudly within the School for everyone to enjoy. With the money raised, a tree and a plaque will be purchased for people to remember this exciting event in many years to come.
