Meet the Governors

Chair of Governing Body – David Wimble

My name is David Wimble and I’m the current Chair of Governing Body at Wheatlands with one child at the school. I was elected as a Parent Governor in 2011 when my first child was in Reception. I am on various committees and I am also Link for Science and Maths. I am active locally within groups like Friends of Redcar and I’ve also helped with the Kick off the summer events. I have worked in Industry both locally and all over the world in Specialist Measurement technology. I believe fully in the schools values and hopefully help the school in providing a safe and encouraging environment for our children to learn and grow.

Samantha Pyle – Head Teacher

My name is Samantha Pyle and I am lucky enough to be the Headteacher of Wheatlands. This role automatically makes me a member of the governing body. It is a privilege to work with such a committed and dedicated group of people who clearly have the school’s best interest at heart. Our ethos is of openness and challenge which enables the governors to hold myself and the leadership team to account, leading to greater improvement. Together we strive to make the school the best it can be.

Claire Tennyson – Co-opted Governor

My name is Claire Tennyson and I have been a governor since April 2018.  I have over 19 years’ experience of working in school sport. I currently manage the Redcar & Eston School Sport Partnership hosted at Rye Hills Academy, but working across all of the schools within Redcar & Eston. The partnership aims to increase and improve the opportunities for young people aged 5-16 years in PE, physical activity and school sport. I have worked closely with Wheatlands Primary for just over 11 years in a professional capacity and the role of governor gives me the opportunity to support the school further, making a real difference to the children and young people.

Kris Kerr-Morgan – Parent Governor

My name is Kris Kerr-Morgan and I became Governor in November 2022.  My son attends Wheatlands Primary and he encouraged me to get involved following his time as a member of the School Council.

Wheatlands sits at the heart of our community and as a local businessman predominantly involved in construction, I realise how important it is to develop our youngsters at an early age and to build for our future.

Having worked on numerous government contracts with Local Authorities and School Bodies, I realise the importance of social value and giving back to our local community. I hope to bring some fresh and innovative ideas to the Board and challenge the status quo, ultimately to maximise the opportunities and experiences our children receive during their time at the school.

Philip Taylor – Parent Governor

My name is Phillip Taylor, and I proudly took on the role of Governor in November 2024. My decision to apply was largely influenced by my daughter, who is a pupil at Wheatlands Primary. I am deeply committed to enhancing her educational experience, as well as that of all the pupils at the school.
With a diverse career background that includes service in the Royal Air Force and roles in various national and global companies, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this position. My professional journey has equipped me with valuable skills in Information Technology and a broad understanding of business operations.
I am eager to leverage these skills to contribute positively to Wheatlands Primary and the wider trust. My goal is to support the school in providing a high-quality education and fostering an environment where every pupil can thrive. I believe that my unique perspective and experiences will help drive continuous improvement and innovation within the school community.

Anne Alderton – Trust Governor

My name is Anne Alderton and I was delighted to take the role as Governor in 2026. As a retired senior manager with over 40 years’ experience in the finance industry, I want to use my skills and experience for the benefit of Wheatlands Primary School. Having two young grandchildren, gives me a personal appreciation of the importance of early and primary education, while close family members who are teachers provide valuable insight into the day-to-day realities and challenges faced by schools. In addition, having a niece who is a SEND pupil, has deepened my understanding of inclusion and the importance of ensuring all children receive the support they need to thrive. My professional background will enable me to support financial oversight, risk management and long-term planning, ensuring resources are used wisely to benefit pupils’ education and wellbeing. These experiences will allow me to offer informed, compassionate, and constructive support that places pupils’ wellbeing and achievement at the heart of decision-making, in an environment that is safe and happy where the children feel motivated to reach their full potential.
