Special Educational Needs and Disability

Wheatlands Primary School is an inclusive school. We believe that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, should be offered inclusive teaching which will enable them to make the best possible progress in school and feel that they are a valued member of the wider school community.

SEND has undergone many recent changes. A new code of practice for SEND is now available and has been in place since September 2014. Children with statements have had these re-written as Education Health Care Plans (EHCP) with transparent personalised budgets.

The funding for children with an EHCP has changed. Schools are responsible for providing up to £6000 funding for a child with SEN. A school can apply for funding if needed above this figure. School Action and School Action Plus have been replaced by SEN Support.

The SEND co-ordinator at our school is Mrs Simpson and can be contacted via email – jsimpson@wheatlandsprimary.co.uk

All children on our SEND register will have structured conversations each term with their teacher and parent whereby targets are set and support identified.
